Day 19: Nauvoo to Burlington

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

Nauvoo, IL to Burlington, IA (40 mi / 64 km)

Easy riding up to across from Burlington. But then…

Crazy bridge highway to get over the river, stayed on the highway where we weren’t supposed to, got off.

Now in Iowa.

Hilly Burlington, hard to find our way around, iPhone was wrong about road, hard to find Agency. Hot Toddies bar & grill. During the extreme heat we’ve had a joke about pretending that we are biking through Antarctica and that a nice hot toddie would warm us up. We were very entertained at finding a pub with this name. We didn’t stick around, but headed up and ate at Hy-Vee.

Bike shop – Bickles – very friendly and we hung out there all afternoon, they offered to let us shower, pitch a tent, etc. So we stayed the night just outback the store, about a 1/4 mile from a Super Wal-Malt.

Hid out in a random but great restaurant during severe thunderstorms, then headed back pitched our tent and went to bed.

It was a bit chilly.

  1. Thank goodness for bike shops! They seem to be available to you during crucial junctures!
